CheckBook Pro App Reviews

Sorry, Quicken

Yep, same as a lot of recent people, updated to Sierra only to find that my Quicken Essentials was all of the sudden now obsolete… well, isn’t that just great! No way I was going to pay $80 for something that Checkbook Pro does equally as well, and is all that I ever needed, and used Quicken for - just a simple earnings and expenditures ledger. Thankfully Checkbook Pro plays nice with the years of data saved from Quicken, and was easily imported into Checkbook Pro (after finding the correct ‘.quickendata’ file, and then finding that all my accounts were able to be selected after that in the presented dropdown), and am now back to being good to go… so, thank you Checkbook Pro! And sorry, Quicken.

CheckBook Pro

Definately not Quicken material but for the price I’ll continue to use it. Could add/ split the amount column so that deposits are separate but I can deal with it. If you want a bare bones Checkbook app it does work.

Does everything i need to do. Wish it would enter decimal point automatically.

Great App

I migrated to Checkbook after learning that MAC OS Sierra did not support Quicken Essentials. After loading my old Quicken files to Checkbok I found the learning curve for was not steep at all. After a few weeks with Checkbook I am handling the basics with efficiency. I haven’t any reports with it, so I can’t comment on that activity. Overall, I am completely satisfied and would certainly recommend it to other MAC users.

LMS

Simple and intuitive. I would like separate columns for deposits and withdrawals. Customer service never responded to my 2 requests for help, but I figured things out (mostly). I wish I could use a sync’d version on Ipad and MacBook, but - they never responded. Excellent product.

I like it

I’m no natural accountant, so I need something that makes sense and is easy to figure out. This is it. I’ve used it for my home finances for a couple months now, and even though I havn’t learned all the tricks, it works great for keeping track of my money.

SIERRA UPGRADE FRUSTRATES QUICKEN ESSENTIALS USERS

Thank goodness for CheckBook Pro. I have been using Quicken Essentials for MAC ever since I purchased my MAC 5 years ago. When I upgraded to Sierra and tried to open my Quicken Essentials APP, it was not supported by the new OS. Frustration was definitely in my psyche. I researched Quicken Essentials and discovered that it was time to move on anyway. Support for Quicken for MAC was a thing of the past. I read reviews for replacement APPS that perform similar to Quicken. I was not willing to spend $80 for a “pig in the poke” that may or maynot work as I wanted. I totally agree with all of MrJPH review comments. I read many good reviews for CheckBook Pro and decided to take a chance. Best gamble I ever took. CheckBook Pro does exactly what I need. Simple, easy to understand and best of all, all of my Quicken data downloaded to CheckBook Pro in about 5 seconds. I didn’t lose a scrap of data or reports. Saving all of the history for income taxes was a real relief. Best APP I ever purchased. I would recommend the CheckBook Pro APP to anyone that is looking for a checkbook register(+) APP. Thank you CheckBook Pro and for Quicken Essentials for MAC may I say……..RIP!

CheckBook PRO - thy name is FRUSTRATION!

Why oh why do you have to show your balance as being in the red???!!! This approach makes no sense at all! I can see the transaction amount column being either red or green depending on the transaction but to have the balance be red for all transactions except deposits is crazy. Certainly if these guys are good programmers they can easily fix it. When I see my balance being “in the red” I get worried. Having to look for a minature minus sign to show that it is really “in the red” is just too silly to discuss. How about if you have a positive balance you show green? If you are in the red then show the balance in red. That way you would have a visual warning. It is just too bizarre to get used to this. Too bad there isn’t an option where at least the user can have it the way he/she wants instead of having to live with the color the developer wants.

ChexkBook Pro

CheckBook Pro; is; “" Great value for the little price”"; After using Quicken for years and I find their upgrade far to exprnisive; " I’m very pleassed with CheckBook Pro”

Personal

Is just what I need, the only thing that could be better is if there were computational cells.

Check book Pro

Hard for me to rate this as I am only using for a short time but I am a slow learner and there are things that are different from quicken. I reconciled tonight but am not sure I did it correctly beause I could not find a tutorial about it -

Checkbook Pro

I was a former Quickbook user and when I update to OSS 10.2 version it wasn’t capatiable with the 10.2 version. I was advised that an up wasn’t in the future for QuickBook. However for $150 I could purchase an upgrade. Not that I’m using Checkbook Pro I was very pleased. This product has all the features that I need to keep my finances in order. The product is well worth the price. I have only been using this product for about a month and haven’t had any issues. Thank-you

Dreat Program

Having used quicken for windows for years and then swittching to the Apple version when I swithched computers, I was totally disenachantedwiththe way it was working. The final straw was the fact that after an update the data to recincile was changed and there didn’t seem to be anyway I could get it to work without just starting over. I started looking for another program and found CheckBook Pro. It has everything I want and works beautiful for me. I am still finding out little things that are great about it.

New to Checkbook Pro...

Every bit as good as Quicken. Twice I was left hanging when Quicken decided to stop upgrading along with new MacOS upgrades. Here’s to a good relationship with Checkbook Pro!

Terrific

This is the perfect checking program for me and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a simply check registry that keeps track of your checks by category along with a running balance. I have never connected my checkbook electronically to my credit union account. Instead, I do a manual check each month comparing my entries Checkbook Pro to the bank record. Just old fashioned, I guess. You cannot beat the price for this program. I was wasting my money on Quicken and all the fancy doodads included with it. Quicken also cancels its support every few years, forcing you to upgrade. The final straw for me was when I downloaded MacOS Sierra and could not access my Quicken data because my version of Quicken was not compatible with the new OS Sierra. That was the ONLY app that would not transfer.

Simple, easy, efficient

Switched from Quicken and very happy. Tired of having to always need to “upgrade”. This app is easy to use and fills all my needs. It’s simple and imported all my Quicken data easily. If you need a quick, easy way to manage your household finances, this is it!!!!

Works as promised

I’ve used Checkbook Pro with the Sierra OS. I have not had any problems. It does exactly what I need it to do…. keep track of my checkbook. It is intuitive and answers to any questions I had have were found in the “Help” section of the app.

Works on Sierra. Very good switch from Quicken Essentials.

I am one of those many people who were frustrated by Quicken Essentials stopped working after Sierra upgrade. I had used Quicken Essentials for so many years so I am ok that it is no longer supported. What I wasn’t ok with was that the Quicken update costs me nearly $80. So I did my homework, and started to use ChackBook Pro. It has been about a month now, and I am happy that I switched. There is some “getting-used-to” things here and there, but they are not hard, and was pretty easy for me. I don’t know what other people were doing with QE, but it does everything I did with QE. And one of the most important thing is that it imported all my QE data so I can continue using my data. There were features of QE I was not using, so I am not sure it does everything QE does, but it does everything I was doing with QE. I believe it does what QE does for many people, if not all. The only thing I was not perfectly happy with was the importing proecss. I had to import from QE data one account at a time. There could have been an option of scanning the QE data to figure out how many account the data file has, and let user select which account data to import. I had several account data on my file and I had to take the importing process several times. This is my only suggestion to CheckBook Pro for now. But this is only at the beginning, so I understand that this would be a low priority update. I am indeed giving 5 stars on CheckBook Pro. Quicken Essentials, thank you so much for doing the task for me for so many years, and, now, this is the end of it. I moved on with Sierra. Goodbye.

Bye bye Quicken Essentials

Like many others, just found out QE is useless on Sierra. Wasn’t even given a heads up on it. After searching, I decided to get Checkbook Pro as I needed something simpler than QE anyway. Setting up Checkbook Pro was easy, but importing the QE files was not as easy as the YouTube videos I found. For any other newbies, I found that you had to set up an account (any name will do, you can change it later) before you can import the file(s). Once you have an account set up, THEN you can go to File>Import>Quicken Essential Mac. Locate the backup file (.quickenbackup), double click, click on “data”. That finally got me to where I could import each account I had. I wrote down each account I had in QE, then went back and created them in Checkbook Pro. Then I could go and import each account from the data file into CP. Time consuming, but it worked. I also saw some reviews that said you couldn’t rename the original file name when first opening up Checkbook Pro. Once I was done importing my accounts from QE, I closed out CP, when into Finder>Documents and renamed the original file. Also saw where someone didn’t like the colors. You can go into the Preferences and change those colors to whatever you want. I only gave it four stars since I’ve literally only had it about an hour. I had hoped to be able to link my bank or credit cards, but unless I’m missing it, can’t do that. That was the one thing I did like about Quicken Essentials, but I can live without it. I think I’ll be happy with Checkbook Pro, and thanks to the developer for making a cost friendly app.

Surprisingly Good!

My old Qucken Essentials for Mac became obsolete with OS 10.12 Sierra. I didn’t want to spend more money on a new version of Quicken and I really don’t need all the features offered by Quicken. I just want to keep track of my bank accounts. Behold, Checkbook Pro. Now I thought I would have to start from scratch, but no, it imported all my old Quicken Data. I was even able to perform the first montly reconciliation with no adjustments whatsoever. There are a few stylistic things about Checkbook Pro that bother me (for example, split payments are not as intuitive as Quicken), but I suspect that after a few months use, I will not even notice those anymore.
